WIVENHOE COMMUNITY CHARITY BACKGROUND
Wivenhoe Community Charity (WCC) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Charity Commission number 1160666. WCC was formed in 2024 to support the Wivenhoe community, operating as a separate entity, supplementing Wivenhoe Town Council (WTC)’s resources by securing grant funding for charity groups and organisations in need of extra financial help. The WCC committee is made up of five WTC councillors and representatives of the wider community, Alderwoman Fran Richards and Aldermen Peter Hill and Brian Sinclair. (See the trustee biography page for details.)
WCC’s Funding Officer Samantha Davey supports the activities of WCC by seeking out sources of match-funding for community projects from national and Essex-wide sources. In addition, the Funding Officer is able to identify and secure WCC funding for local charity groups and other community organisations by advising on potential sources of funding, supporting funding applications and advising on potential sponsors.
WCC’s mission is to provide a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We believe that every individual deserves access to opportunities, resources and support to achieve their full potential. WCC will principally be concentrating on 3 main categories of community funding support:
Young people, including aid for neurodiversity and educational projects, elderly residents, and those with physical and mental impairments, and environmental and climate change projects.
Applications outside these areas will be considered by the committee on their own merit.
In order to be considered for grant applications or fundraising support, applicants are required to complete the funding application form attached and return it to: Admin@thewivenhoecommunitycharity.co.uk

Applicants are required to provide specific details about their funding needs/ projects, including objectives, budgets, and time- frame, and are asked to apply well in advance of their needs to allow time for the Funding Officer to identify and apply for suitable sources of funding. N.B. In general, grants available for community organisations are generally awarded for one-off activities such as capital projects and equipment, open days, and outings, rather than routine running costs.
