Wivenhoe Community Charity

Councillor Glynis Hailes-Morley, WCC Chair & Trustee

E-mail: glynis@the wivenhoecommunitycharity.co.uk

I retired in 2007 after a civil service career in the Ministry of Defence and in the Department of Communities and Local Government, working in the areas of finance, policy and human resources.

When I arrived in Wivenhoe in 2016, I immediately felt part of this welcoming, vibrant, inclusive community, and I still feel extremely fortunate to be living here. I was co-opted to WTC in 2023, and I am a member of the Finance and Personnel, Estates Committees and several Working Groups, including Health & Well-being, Community Engagement, and Funding. My focus as a councillor is to do my best to serve the whole community in a constructive manner; I particularly enjoy helping to organise and support community events with fellow councillors and our wonderful WTC staff.

My main interest outside WTC and WCC is volunteering, and I enjoy working as part of a team for Reaching Out at Christmas, the Wivenhoe Foodbank, Helping Hands and the Monday Club.

I was co-opted to WTC in 2021 having moved to Wivenhoe from North Norfolk where I had been a local councillor for many years. I have also been a Parliamentary candidate.

I have a keen interest in planning issues and in particular local plans. I'm currently reviewing the WNP to ensure it's up to date and reflects current planning legislation and meets the needs of local residents, young and old,and businesses.

I enjoy rowing and row regularly with WivGigs and am a member of WSC. I'm also a member of Wivenhoe Society.

As well as being a local councillor, I'm an active pensioner and continue to work as an early years & childcare consultant as well as being the co-founder of a social enterprise, bringing all ages together.

Councillor Shaun Boughton, WCC Trustee

I was first elected onto the town council back in 2014.

My areas of interest are planning, the environment, open spaces, youth and policing issues around the town.

I am a parish safety volunteer for Essex Police and Essex Fire Rescue, helping to deliver fire safety and crime prevention measures across Essex, not only Wivenhoe.

My passion has always been to help the good people of Wivenhoe, a town that has such a great community spirit and kind-hearted so my agenda is to serve Wivenhoe the best I can. Together we all make up a great team all pulling together to support Wivenhoe's needs given the huge changes that are happening around us.

To serve and protect our unique identity is my promise to you all.

I have been running activities in Wivenhoe and chairing many organisations here now for 50 years, involving both young and old people as well as those in between!

I served on Wivenhoe Town Council for just over 25 years and was elected Town Mayor three times. Amongst my many interests are the Friendly Club and Wivenhoe’s alms houses, for which I have chaired a team of trustees for over 30 years. My long-held ambition is to see 6 new alms houses added to our existing portfolio of 13 properties.
